My Nice Dell Inspiron 1100 is Dead!!!!!!

Look at it, it's so pretty I bought it because of the nice pretty color and demo I saw in the mall. My beautiful blue Dell Inspiron 1100 is DEAD!! It died on me after 2 1/2 years and I can't even power the thing up... Sigh!
After taking it to Geek Squad (notice the pink sticker) for an evaluation it was determined that it would be less expensive to buy a new laptop than invest in rebuilding this dead Dell.....I can't believe my Dell Inspiron is dead!!!! Lost all of my stuff too!!!

What??? A new laptop just when we have to shop for school uniforms, school supplies, gym shoes etc....??? We now have a 7th grader and 9th grader who would have been taking over my Dell Inspiron 1100 for school assignments anyway and now we have to invest in a new Dell!!! Wrong, a girls gotta do what a girls gotta do.
No sense in complaining, I ran out and purchased a Gateway, it's really fast and I got it on sale for $595.00! Not a bad deal for homework, blogging and personal business huh? The only thing I do not like about the Gateway is that the keyboard mouse makes a semi-loud clicking sound. Oh well, this time Best Buy recommended Trend Micro Antivirus and I like it already. No more pop ups like I always got with the Norton and McAfee Antivirus....also Trend appears to be compatible with Picasa so I can use my "blog this" feature.
Thanks Dell! Why don't you build a laptop that will last longer than 2 1/2 to 3 years? I really thought it would last much longer, my Dell Inspiron 1100 is Dead!!!! So sad...sniff, sniff!
Here's what Dell said:
Dell's mainstream Inspiron 1100 is the cheapest notebook in the newly redesigned Inspiron family, but it's by no means the runt. In CNET Labs' tests, the system displayed the fastest performance and the longest battery life among its Celeron-based competitors. The sub-$800 price is also impressive. Of course, you can't expect everything from a laptop this cheap. The Inspiron 1100 lacks perks, such as integrated wireless. But all things considered, the Inspiron 1100 is one of the best mainstream notebooks on the market.
Ugh! Does anyone know of a place where I can donate a dead Dell Inspiron 1100???
About Mac: Mac has come highly recommended by other freinds of mine and I'm afraid of the price and OSS. Maybe one day I'll venture out.....

is it me or did dell just acknowledge that their machine is a piece of "mudpie"? we are shopping for a laptop and it's highly unlikley that we would even consider buying a dell. my dh recommends the new macg5 or the lenovo. we'll see what happens.

I feel your pain, our Dell desktop hard-drive failed and we lost everything (Umph), my DH is still trying hard to retrieve anything(bless his heart).

So I am starting all over, thank God for my blogs and MySpace or else I would not have had anything, photo's, blog addresses, websites etc. (WHEW).

I've been having problems with my Dell as well. I even wrote a letter to Michael Dell himself! Let me know if you need the corporate office number. :)

Oh my - this problem with Dell's dying after such a short period of time is not good at all.

My toshiba will be 5 years old in december and it's still going on strong.

I am knocking on wood due to this comment.

Also, you should take your computer to a specialist and have them remove the files from your harddrive. Your files should still be salvageable.

Have you read my post: What the Dell?

It's too much what's happening with ppl's Dell's conking out. You, Brunsli, RDP.

Thankfully mine IS still working, but I feel like I'm living on borrowed time!

Ah, well... Sorry about that. Awfully crummy timing.

What?? I'm still catching up on blogs so I've missed all the Dell drama. Blackrussina, thanks for sharing.

Shanessence, by all means please share the corporate office info, email me at creyole@gmail.com. Maybe I'll check into trying to save the file but I'm so drained I just want to forget about all the darn Dell stuff.

Muslimlocs & Chi-Chi,

I'm sorry you lost everything. Tonight I'm gonna save my files on a CD.

I feel you my sister. I thought my dell had crashed but I was able to recover. I highly recommend backing up your hard drive and applications on your system. So if you do lose it, you are no totally dead. Glad you are back up and running.

I feel you on the finances too I had to add braces to the mix.

Hush! I have an Inspiron E1705. I have been putting off the backup, but I think it's high time.
You didn't hear it from me, but I read an article that described how some people bought the extended care warranty and coincidentally dropped their Dell laptops after they were discontinued so they would be replaced with a brand new one...
As for Macs, they are the bomb diggity! The only reason I even got a Windows-based PC was that I moved down the socio-economic ladder a rung when I changed careers. When my father offered to get me a post-Katrina computer, I wanted to get the most affordable one possible. But I have to say Macs are worth the extra money if you have it. If it's primarily for home use, the desktops are a great package! I owned three Macs. They never crashed. And I only got new ones to 'upgrade.'

i'm sorry to hear about your computer. it's amazing how much of our lives we keep on them and don't even realize until something happens.

i am a Mac girl and would highly recommend them to anyone. i used to have a PC, but then had to to work on Macs at work. since then, i've never looked back. i've had my iBook for 2 years and even though the battery seems to be declining, i really don't have any complaints.

they are pretty pricey, but for the beauty and ease, i think they're worth it. :)

NO!!! I'm typing from a Dell Inspiron 1100 right now. Please don't die on me. Mine has been known to shut off without warning. As if it's saying, "I'm hot and I'm tired of googling everything under the sun, PEACE!"

geek squad is one of the most expensive repair agencies around. I teach computer repair to high school students and we are working on one right now. I suggest you google your problem and see what you can find

I do have to wonder about the reviewers that complain about the dell Inspiron 1100 Series Battery. They are probably the same guys who would buy a Ferrari and complian about the mileage. I will carry my extra battery as a badge of honor. Either you get it, or you don't.

Rather odd - No idea what you people are doing with these systems. I work at a large corporation with a huge lot of Laptops. The Dell are destroying the Gateways and IBMs when it comes to performance and lifespan. The only Dell Desktop thus far I have seen many issues with would be the Dimension 2400 and the Optiplex GX270. Otherwise everything else has been great. We have multiple systems that were still running fine when phased out due to age (6-7 years old).

In fact I now run all Dell at home without issue.
