It's a Small World

You know the saying...."it's a small world?" I found out this weekend that the saying is completely true. After a short hiatus from blogging I just had to get on this weekend and tell all of my lock family about my experience. Do you know the familiar face picture with me?

Ok, for those of you who don't know......it's Chocolocs and while in church on Sabbath she recognized Praline21 as she ushered during the service. Afterwards, Chocolocs found her way towards me, our eyes met, we immediately recogninzed each other and embraced like Celie & Nettie from the Color Purple!

Turns out that Chocolocs is also a Seventh-day Adventist and was in town for a wedding. She's friends with the Groom and I'm friends with the Bride, who is also member of my church. Wow, too much information but we just could not believe how this all took place. So, here she is all the way from Michigan for a wedding and ends up visiting my home church!!!! Can you believe it?

Chocolocs has the most beautiful head of locs, bright in color and a perfect bill of healthy locks. If I had to compare, I'd say hers looks exactly like Blaqkofi's and if the two of them were ever in the same room together....they'd be lock twins.

As for me, I'm just letting my 3 year old locks do their own thing, not much in to styles these days. I'm loving the flow of them as well as free styling due to my work out frequency of five days a week. Yep, I'm addicted and decided to make serious lifestyle changes including changing my diet. With that lifestyle change comes the convenience of wearing locks!

Chocolocs, it was a pleasure meeting you, your locs are to die for and I hope to see you again in the near future.

Dr Cornwell Visits DFW Ladies

Gigi and Blaqkofi did a fabulous job of putting this event together. Big shout out to ya!
After the visit With Dr. Cornwell and connecting with her Sisterlock vision I am even more interested in taking the Consultants class.
I may be doing it sooner than later.....
If anyone has taken the class and would like to offer your experience please do. I invite pro's and con's.

What a blessing.......to my surprise Blaq brought along her sister (pictured below right) who I connected with the first time I met her. What a powerhouse soldier she is!!! I just love and adore her spirit. Don't let this be your last visit girlfriend. Blaq, thanks for sharing!!!
"T" in return fell for my baby Praline and found words of praise as Praline dedicated the appropriate Sam Cooke song"A Change is Gonna Come" to Dr. Cornwell.

And below (right), my fabulous hair twin Jen/ ! She is another DFW'er that has the spirit of a lamb and totally gifted in making anyone feel right a home and welcomed.

Thanks ladies, you've done it once again!

Icy Weekend in Dallas

No Sisterlock Gathering for us DFW gals!! Ba humbug! The forcast is ice, rain and temps below 31 for the entire weekend. We already have ice hanging from our neighborhood trees, can you believe that????

I just got off the phone with Blaqkofi and Sister-in-Locks discussing the plans for the Waco Gathering and it appears that the weather is too risky for us to travel the trecherous roads here in Texas.

Maryee & Jen have worked so hard to make this happen and looks like we'll have to reschedule due to weather. Thanks ladies and we appreciate all the efforts

All things work together for the good and I believe we'll have an even better time once we finally get together again........ Posted by Picasa

SL Holiday Visit

We were having a hard time dealing with the fact that we would not see each other until Martin Luther King Birthday gathering in Waco, TX that will be hosted by Jen and Maryee. So.....we decided to get together for a quick visit.

TRA, Blaqkofi and I settled on dinner at Brooklyn's and a BLAST we had!! Those two ladies are soooooo funny and I realized that Sisterlocks have given me exposure to some of the the most beautiful people that I now call my friends! Inside and out, they are wonderful to hang with..............

Thanks ladies for the fab-u-lous time hanging out for the holidays!!!!! Laughter is life.....Posted by Picasa

And the beat goes on.......

Another dy-no-mite DFW gathering! Blaqkofi captured the pure essence of it all.

Here in this collage I want to highlight my guests. First of all, this world is too small for me....you may be wondering why the guy without locks are included??

Well, he happens to be a very good friend who introduced me to Cosmo Rouge a couple of years ago. Since then, he moved to the East Coast and when I walked into the Cosmo Rouge he was the very first face I saw. Naturally, we met each other with open arms of disbelief and happiness. What are the chances that he would be in town for another friends gathering and we both end up in the same place?? Good to see you Paul!!

The bottom left picture is of a buddy from work, she is thinking of locking and she brought her sister along who is pictured on the right of me. Another buddy I invited is Diana on the bottom right, she is ready for her lock installment by no other than Gigi and I'm too sure she'll love every moment. Sister-n-locks shown below with that awesome dress, if it were not a crime I would have pulled it off of her and taken it home.

Look at the wonderful AllyH20! She has a very sweet spirit, we sat next to each other and talked about hair, skin care and possibly locking her beautiful twins hair. Can you imagine what her family would look like with everyone locked? I hope I live to see it!

Tra's hair has really taken off and I am lovin her style. Soooo earthy!! You go girl!

Maryee and Jen we truly missed your presence and hope to see you both at our October locversary gathering. Posted by Picasa

Time Out for a SL Lunch

Us girls (Karen, Detra, Me & TRA, top left pic) decided to take a nice little lunch today and have some down time by treating ourselves to some good ole PF Chang.

It was a blast, we just could not help ourselves, the minute we sat down we started chatting as if we've known each other for years and years. I felt so at home with them, it's like an extenstion of blood sisters.

Anyway, we talked about family, telecommunication industry (we also have careers in common), gave advice to one another, discussed what we need to do to get ourselves in shape (exercise - ugh!), New York trip plans (Detra's working those reservations), how addicted we are to blogging & reading everyone else's blogs (daily), laughed, joked and of course discussed our favorite subject.... SISTERLOCKS!
Thanks for the enjoyable time today ladies!!!! If lunch can be this much fun, I can only imagine how much fun we'll have taking a bite out of the Big Apple!

I included the pic below because it shows my newly cut locs styled with my brand new Soft Spikes, thanks Detra for sneaking this pic in on me. Of course, the curls are not as tightly curled as I would desire because I ordered the large ones for growth use later on. It would probably look better once I wash and curl immediately afterwards instead of curling on four day old washed hair. At any rate, I like it for now!

DFW 2nd Sisterlock Brunch

My, my, my!! This weekend was off the hook!!! When I tell you it was truly a blessing to be in the presence of such elevating, invigorating, educated, professional, down to earth, dignified, confident sista’s, I tell you “No Lye!!!” This is only our second gathering of the DFW Sisterlockers and it just keeps getting better and better. This is the first time in a very long time that I’ve been in the company of strangers and felt so connected with each person there. Truly a blessing and I can’t even imagine what February will be like when we do it again.

Happy Birthday!!!! and Thank you Shirley for opening your beautiful home to us, the atmosphere was so inviting and warm. The girl does not look a day over 30 and I won't be the one to tell her age but keep on doing what ya doing. You and your sister (I managed not to get a picture of her please send me one somebody!!) were wonderful hostesses, your son Kory was very accommodating and the food was soooooooo good! Shirley did her "thing" too and told us all about how a Sista should be respected!!

I feel like I am ADD right now because my thoughts are running together from excitement and I can’t type as fast I’m thinking. Ok, let me take a deep breath and slow down. Inhale…..Exhale.....

DFW SL Brunch "My Guests"

OK, I'm back! We opened with introductions and everyone had an exciting story about their "Natural Journey." I invited my niece who is really considering locking her hair, she is a high school Senior and is totally infatuated with BlaqKofi’s Sisterlocks. I believe Narissa has seen every Sisterlock blog and Fotki album out there and she is ready to save and get the party started before heading off to college.

I also brought a friend, Thomasa, who has been natural for two years and after spending the evening with everyone she was ready for Gigi to start hers right on site at BlaqKofi’s house! I’m sure we can all relate to having to wait for that install appointment! Posted by Picasa

DFW Brunch - Mrs. TRA's Bud

While hanging out and chatting, TRA found a sweet little “bud,” she’s been locked for about three months now and like me she has Symptom #1 “hanzenthehairtis” listing in the book “A Tapestry of Dreams” by Dr. Cornwell. Since having this disease, she’s been searching for budding locks and guess what; she found one at the Brunch! Whoopi!!!!!! She was elated because this is the first sign of locks becoming locks! DFW Brunch Group Pic

Shout out to Ms. Brunsli!!! We missed you girl, you must make the February Brunch. Brunsli sent us an Instant Message during the Brunch to say hello, talk about a truly connected group. I can go on and on, but I’ll let the pictures tell the story. So, this was an awesome gathering and again…..I can hardly wait for February to roll around.

DFW SL Brunch "Audre Lorde Poems"

Posted by Picasa
This particular DFW Brunch was especially empowering because of the powerful spirit of each sista in attendance.

Because of the everlasting impression I'd like to share some of my favorite Quotes by the legendary works of Audre Lorde

"it is not our differences that divide us. it is our inability to recognize, accept & celebrate those differences." -Audre Lorde

"If I didn't define myself for myself, I would be crunched into other people's fantasies for me and eaten alive" ~ Audre Lorde

"Every woman I have ever known has made a lasting impression on my soul." -Audre Lorde

You see, we are Queens and should treat each other as such.....this world does not have any more room for hate, envy and jeolousy. I really felt like I was in the presence of Queens this past weekend! You all rock!!!!

DFW SL Brunch "Awesome"

Girls, I can't help myself... we are AWESOME!!!!! Posted by Picasa

See ya'll in February!!! No wait, see Karen and BlaqKofi on Friday, we go to the re-tightening class with Consultant Gigi on Friday! Whew Who!!!

DFW Sisterlock Brunch

Whew......I cannot even begin to tell you how wonderful it felt to be in the presence of so many beautiful sisterlocked sista's. If the Sisterlock Reunion is anything like this I am "so there" next year. To begin, upon arrival at the Blue Mesa Grill I opened the door there stood Maryee, Jen and Tiffany. I immediately knew who Maryee and Jen were and once Tiffany introduced herself we all stood hugging and greeting one another. We then proceeded upstairs to be seated and there was Blaqkofi (Shirley), we all knew her from her well-known blog and the hugs started all over again. As we waited to be seated, more DFW Sisterlockers began to stroll in and each time someone walked in we all pulled out the cameras and started flashing away! One young lady could not help herself, she was so taken by our hair that she stopped and asked Shirley for information. Well, that just kicked off the recruitment process and Shirley began to explain the whole procedure as the young lady stood in amazement. (Tiffany, Jen, Blaqkofi & Maryee pictured above)

**Don't forget to click on each pic to get a close up**

We were seated and there was not a quiet moment at the table as we all got to know one another on a more personal level. I sat next to Jen, Beverly, Blaqfoki and Tiffany and the conversations we had about hair, God, family and relationships will forever be remembered. (Beverly pictured below)

Jen, so deep and funny in her own way, reminds me so much of one of my favorite Artists – Ms. India Arie! Beverly, who’s Sisterlocks are five years old was so encouraging and so very confident within herself, shared the story of her sister giving her Sisterlocks as a birthday gift, what love! Blaqkofi, we were locked within two weeks of each other, she has such a sweet spirit and that hair of hers is so soft! Tiffany, who decided to go with Braidlocks, had them put in the day before meeting for brunch today and her hair was so pretty, can’t wait to see her in another year! She’s going to take off! Ok, if anyone wants color please talk to Karen she has the most beautiful hair color I've ever seen on locks.

I’m sure people eating were blinded by our flashes because we were constantly taking pictures at our table. The excitement was one to be desired!! Brunch was a great success and I look forward to the next gathering. We all decided that the next meeting should be scheduled in December for a nice holiday setting. (Karen pictured above left with the dy-no-mite hair color)

As we exited Blue Mesa, a table of young men and a female stopped us and wanted to know about our hair, there came another opportunity to market Sisterlocks. I must say, everyone was so down to earth that I truly felt a special bond with each locked individual. This was off the hook and I’m looking forward to our next jamboree! Oh one more I must not forget...... Marilyn!!! Wow, her gray locks were fierce! I can't wait to embrace my gray, they were so beautiful they sparkled from afar. You are the bomb Mariyln. (Pictured below)

Thanks everyone for accepting the invitation and especially thanks to Sandy for the LockItUp group. The LockItUp group allows us the opportunity to connect with one another for support through the process and Sisterlocks haircare advice. (Partial group of Sisterlockers)
