Meet Mrs. Vickie

Mrs. Vickie and I met at one of our favorite pass times....Costco! She and her sister who also wears locks were strolling through when we all made eye contact and instantly complimented each other on our locks. From there is was on!

I've retightened her traditional locks several times now and she is such a delight to spend time talking to while taking care of our lock business. You'll never guess her age and she'll kill me if I even tried to speak it....trust me she should be proud cause she really takes good care of herself and she definitely does not look her age. You go Mrs. Vickie!!!

Lock Student Client

I started my locking/braiders certification and will have my 35 hours completed next week. This is my first official lock student client, excluding Mrs Dee, Praline and Thomasa, her mom brought her to me for a retightening after seeing mine and Praline's locks.

I took this picture to show the difference in the tightened and non-tightened locks, can you tell? If you notice the top part of the head is not retightened and the ones underneath are tightened. She was a awesome client and we only stopped once in two & half hours for a restroom break. What do you think?

I will be retightening all of my friends and family with the nappy tool and specializing in "tool assisted locks" only. Additionally, I'm having fun and will keep you posted on my certification completion date!

Retightening Class

Karen and I arrived at Gigi's Salon with bells on and anxious to learn the Sisterlock® "retightening" technique. Due to the ice storm on Thursday BlaqKofi had to work and could not make it....bah humbug! We missed you girl!

Gigi got right into the guidelines of the contract and she made it very clear that we could only retighten our own hair. Contract was signed and off we went. Oh boy, I couldn't wait to get started! Gigi is pictured above showing us our SL pattern and the technique using the yarn board and the hook tool. Ok, our turn......

Retightening Class #2

So, here we are... all into it! Karen and I were seriously "tool" challenged..... initially. But, we hung in there and practiced over and over and over and over until we felt comfortable enough to start on our own locks! With Gigi's approval of course!

Gigi, thank you for being so patient because I certainly have much "respect" for all you Consultants out there. This Sisterlock® thang is definitely a science and a brilliant invention! Dr. Cornwell you are Awesome!

Retightening Class #3

We are really on the ball now, completing rotations and moving from one lock to the next!

That "hook tool" is going to take some getting use to and once Gigi showed us how to use the "clip tool" we were shocked at the ease compared to the hook tool. I'm ready to rumble now!

I could not wait to get home; I started right away and finished my entire head in six hours over a two day period. I was driven to finish and now I find myself digging in my head looking for a lock or two that I may have missed, sick huh? Well, I've found a couple and when I did I broke out the tools and started in on them! I'll still be going to my Consultant for check ups and during those times that I feel I need a little pampering but overall, I feel freedom that I now know my pattern and can retighten my "own" hair.

Five Weeks - First Retightening

My wash after the first retightening was a bit scary. I did not braid/band and I was too rough with my shampooing so some of my locks had knots in them. After a couple of days they were fine. Overall, I am still very pleased and excited with each stage.





I'm free-styling for now, just letting it do it's own thing. Maybe, I'll venture out when I'm feeling the vibe to do so.
