My 10 Year Old Baby Got Sisterlocked April 28!

I am so proud of the decision my 10 year old daughter made to get Sisterlocked!! (As if she had no influence). LOL

She has been natural all her life and loves getting her hair braided but hates to get it washed. So I had been dropping little nuggets that if she were to loc her hair we would not have nearly as much drama washing, brushing and combing through her thick 9 inch mane.

So, it all started when I received my first subscription of the Sisterlock Magazine. She read the entire magazine and especially like the story that showed the pictures/testimonial of the young girl that started at age 6. (My book is with a friend so I can't tell you the girls name or page number). That magazine "Set It Off" for us, here we are nearly 6 weeks later and she is locked and loving it. The process took four days and 15 hours and the child already has 2 of the 3 Sisterlock diseases listed in the "Tapestry of Dreams" book, pages 68 & 69:

handsinthe hair itis - hands gravitate uncontrollably toward the locks
whitegirlatoma - the hands drift below the ear area and jerks into a back handed flipping motion

When we went to church yesterday and as soon as she hit the front door every "natural" sister was all over her head showering her with many compliments. She was the center of attention the whole day long, it got so bad I had to give her a reality check because that head was blowing up! LOL. Anyway, for the most part I allowed her to enjoy the thrill of knowing she made an AWESOME decision!

As for Dad, he initially had concerns and asked her what she would do if she did not like it. She told him that she would like it and it was no different from what she had now. She also added that she could wear all kinds of styles like her ponytails and cute headbands. I was in the background going, YESsssssssssss!! (I trained her well) With her addressing the issues on her own he agreed to allow her to do her thing.

I'm sure we'll have more to share as she becomes more exposed to the extended family and friends so stay tuned.

OMG she is so adorable! And I was loving her response to her father, that was a very valid question he asked and her response, shows she really put some thought into the decision to loc! I am so so excited for her! And big ups to you for keeping her so beautifully natural!

Just curious, who locked her? hmmmm......LOL

Thanks everyone for your sweet comments. I shared each one of them with her and she was smiling from ear to ear.

To all interested in knowing who did them. Drumroll please....it was me and because of the wonderful science behind Dr. Cornwell's invention and the enjoyment I rec'd from the experience I'll be a consultant in the near future.

Once our locks mature someone will have to be ready to spread the Sisterlock love down in the Bayou of South Louisiana where my family lives. LOL!

Beauftiful! Gorgeous!! Amazing!!! I can't say enough. This is so wonderful. Congratulations to your daughter on her decision to SL. You planted the seed, but it sounds like this young lady already knows how to take in information, evaluate it and made decisions based on what's right for her! That's fierce!!!

Congrats to you on being such a great example, and doing such a great job on locking her beautiful thick hair! It's already so gorgeous. Since SLs only get better with time, she will be the envy of many. (I'm already imagining the many options she'll have for her Prom do!)

I surely would have been in the group of natural sisters that swooped in to admire and compliment.

Welcome to the SL family!!!

Your daughter looks lovely, as do you. I locked my daughter 3 years ago when she was 9. While she loves the versatility locs provide, she hates getting it retightened and says it hurts. I'm not sure how much of it is true tenderheadedness or acting. Any advice on how to minimize the drama?

The best is yet to come.

How awesome when we can teach our young ladies to be happy with themselves as God created them. I appauld you for putting your money where your mouth is by making the choice to allow your daughter to Sisterlock. Who knows who she may impress along the way with her own natural beauty. She's precious!!

GORGEOUS! What a blessing that she has decided to love what God gave her at such an early age. One of my girlfriend's had her daughter's hair Sisterlocked when she was about 6 and both of their locs are the bomb. Congrats to your little one and to you for being such an awesome example :)!

Big thanks to you all, Baby girl has read each one of your comments, even my hubby has been poking in to read the responses. Yep, she's Daddy's Girl.

We caruso curled her hair on Monday and while many of her friends at school like her hair there is one girl who refuses to believe that her hair is not weave. I agree with Brenda, it's the old "Hater Ration!"

She's ok though because she attends a 95% black school
and many teachers there are natural. They have really
supported her these past two days but of course there were those that asked her what was she going to do when she got tired
of them? Ha, she told them the same thing they do
when they get tired of their perm. (nicely though)

That child has really been listening to my responses
to others cause that's what I tell people when they
ask me that question... LOL

Leighann, you have another big fan of your blog! Yep, baby girl!

Your daughter's hair looks beautiful, I have a little girl whom I sisterlocked at (age 3). She's been locked over three years, it's the best thing I could have done for her. These little sisters have a quiet confidence and it's quite beautiful to see. My daughter's face appears in the first issue of the sisterlocks journal under international consultants (UK Consultants, group picture). You can also see her on www.cammalocks.co.uk God bless your daughter's journey.
