Anyone else ever tried Lavender on their locks?
So, here is my collection of Sisterlock/Locking stuff that I feel so lost without if I'm not in close proximity of them. I carry the stuff around like a bag lady and will fight if anyone even remotely appears to touch it. As if someone is going to take the stuff from me and I'm so guarded over the stuff I'm probably one decision away from being a crack head, but instead I'm a lock head. Hee hee. Ok, my jokes are not as funny as Leighann......I digress.
Here's a list of my stuff and why I use each:
From Left to Right:
1. Sisterlock Aloe shampoo - I use it after I shampoo using my Aveda Hair detoxifier (not shown, but formulated with certified organic aloe—to help maintain hair's natural moisture—while detoxifying.)
2. Sisterlock Journal - My very own first publication hot off the press...I love the jet style format and the wealth of information, every Sisterlocker/Locker should have a subscription....I re-read it everyday.
3. The Sisterlock Tapestry of Dreams written by Dr. Cornwell - I use it to reference all kinds of questions. Don't ask me why I have to carry it...it's kind of comforting like Linus and his blanket.
4. Lavender Spritz
5. My little pink carrying case which holds all of my tools , clips and one pair of scissors, all shown on the table. And I did hear what ya'll said about the scissors...thought I'd let that one pass huh?
While many complimented me on my cutting rampage I did hear those of you that emailed and IM me offline to say "STAY AWAY FROM THE SCISSORS!" Still Waters one of my IM buddies especially got her point across to me and I appreciate her candidness. The truth of the matter is after the second cut I tripped out because I no longer had enough hair to braid my locks and wear my wavy "do" without looking like a porcupine. My caruso curlers are my only saving grace right now so, here's what I am going to do...no more scissors for the next year!
Love and Happiness!

Ok, Ms. TRA...that was pretty smart of you to notice I did not mention taking my scissors out of my bag. I really am trying...help me stop the madness. LOL
I've got my copy of the Sisterlocks journal and been reading it daily too. I have not read Tapestry of Dreams..still working on getting a copy. I like the headband. You've inspired me to start shopping around for some flashy headbands.
I was so excited about your post... I ordered the Sisterlocks journal and my starter shampoo that day.. thanks!
Tanya, yes I find many cute headbands at believe it or not... Isis and Claire's in the local malls.
Jazzi - I'll remove the scissors this weekend... lol
Lisa - I'm happy you enjoyed the post and you'll enjoy the book even more!
Hi
I just wanted to say thank you for your blog it has been one of the most useful resources in helping me to decide to cut my traditional locks of 3years. I am still deciding the best way to go about this. And I have started a blog of my own as I am in London UK and could not find anything online regarding the UK.
Thanks for the inspiration all I need now is bravery!!!
Lavender! Yumm, what a great idea!
Hi afunkykindaglow, thanks for leaving the nice message on my blog. It's always good to know that my blog benefits others.
Now, I'm with Brunsli, please get us some pictures on your blog I'm interested to see the progression of your plans.
I am a lavender lover also. It has been my spritz of choice from day one. I agree its aroma is very soothing.
Thanks for Lavender tip, I was looking for a calming aroma for my spritz...and although the scissors are your addiction, I still love the aftermath of your first cut, simply beautiful!
So you're abandoning the scissors? Your post inspired me to trim my locks! But it's important to quit while you're ahead.
I like to use all kinds of essential oils on my locks. From lavender--which is relazing and purportedly helps with headaches and sleeplessness-- to aveda's purefume blends to perfume scented oils from the brothers who sell incense...I love my hair to smell good!
LaChanda, I just ventured into trying new products. I've seen the Lavendar water at Whole Foods. Gonna have to check it out now myself. Your locks are indeed beautiful, and you were brave to cut them - not once, but twice - but I agree with the group...STEP AWAY FROM THE SCISSORS....Can't wait to see you on the 19th!
I love that bag. That is really cute. Thanks for sharing those necessities. I am still trying to find that one shampoo that I absolutely love. How long have you been using the Aveda and what effects does it have on your locks? I get so much information from you all. Thanks again for sharing. I may have to try that Lavendar water.
Thanks for the post, one of my first !!!
I have posted a pic... I'm off to find some lavender water...
Ree-C,
I've used Aveda for over 10 years throughout my
natural journey and now that I'm loc'd it's still a
good product to use.
I can only use the hair detoxifier since my locs are
not yet mature. The detoxifier gives my hair a
wonderful squeeky clean then I follow-up with the SL shampoo.
Hope you like the lavender water. Keep me posted.
Lavendar water, eh? Okay, I guess it's time for a field trip to Whole Foods!
I washed my hair last night and did my roots with nothing but lavender and water.... to my suprise I didn't have a dry scalp this morning.
I need help with the Lavender Water...we don't have a Whole Foods in my city...any suggestions?
Oh nevermind!!! There is one in my city!!! Kinda far, but it'll be worth the drive...
Karen,
There is a Whole Foods in Plano at Preston and Park,
is that too far?
AFunkyKinofGlow, I knew you would like it! The smell is so relaxing.
